Veteran’s Story: I haven’t kept in touch with Mike. He went to school withand dated my older sister. He enlisted in about ’67 and went through OCS and flight school for fixed wing at Ft. Rucker. He shipped out to Nam and flew air recon in a Piper with rockets under the wings. He was decorated for flying close air support for some grunts, keeping the heat off of them by drawing fire. He stayed in the military and went through medical school. He married a girl named Connie (don’t know her maiden name). He was a psychiatrist for several years in the Medical Corp. He got out short of a full 20. That’s about the time our family lost track of him. I got word from my brother that Mike killed himself late last year. Don’t know any other details. His parents still live in South Bend. Their address is on Oakmont East Drive, but I can’t remember the number.
