Veteran’s Story: My brother Larry was a loner and very conconfrontational. He cut himself off from his whole family living a lonely and miserable life the last few years. He served for the Navy 4 yrs. out of high school. A radar specialman on the U.S.S. Chicago. Was stationed in the bay of Tonkin(sp). He came home different. He then went to work at Reynolds Metals where he stayed 25 yrs. When they closed down he took his retirement early at 45 yrs. He lived on Mt. Hood and just became very reclusive . He maintained one close relationship but not family. The one friend informed him she was moving the next summer to marry her boyfriend and went on vacation leaving Larry to watch her home. When she came back in 5 days he was no where around and after a few days we knew something was wrong. He drove himself up on one of the many spur roads and just went to sleep. He never discussed being in the Navy and we never really thought Vietnam would have effected him like someone on the front line.
