Veteran’s Story: Duddie and I served togather in Vietnam with the 11th Cav. We both survived mines, ambushes, snipers, etc. Our unit stood down in [Jan?] 71. We were split up and he had to finish his 1st tour, I went on to do my second. I made the 11th Cav. Reunion in August of this year and met up with my old track commander, who ended up in the same unit as Duddie [5th Mech] and he said it all just finally got to him and they found him “doornail dead” in a bunker with a rig in his arm. I believe he said he was working in the mess hall went it happened.
