Veteran’s Story: Doug arrived in Vietnam 5 months after I had arrived in September 1968. He was drafted after graduating from collage. As was the custom we (the old guys) took him under our wing and grew to respect him for his intellect, sense of humor and ability to put the enormity of what was happening to us in terms that we could grasp it. He listened to classical music and was in love with the rock music happening in San Francisco in the sixties. A Co. 2/3 199th suffered a temondous amount of combat deaths and wounded in the months that Doug was in country. He was a great guy who should have never of died at the age of 29 and is still remembered often 37 years later.
